I started CrossFit in September of 2013 after finally deciding that I was unhappy with my body weight/health. I wanted to try something different as working out on my own wasn’t working. I tried out CrossFit Boomtown (No Longer Open) after a friend recommended going there, I even remember my first workout…..Helen….for those of you that don’t know it’s 3 Rounds for time of 400m Run, 21 Kettlebell Swings(24kg) and 12 Pull Ups. I modified the weight on the kettlebell swings and used an assistance band for the pull ups. I picked the right time to try this out as they were having a fitness challenge that included nutrition guidance along with an unlimited membership. I was hooked after my first workout; I loved the group atmosphere and competition. After the trial membership/fitness challenge ended I joined up as a member and stayed there until November 2018. I built a home gym and workout via Street Parking Programming shortly after leaving CF Boomtown. I still use the Street Parking Programming even after joining CF Webster in December of 2019, it’s nice to have multiple workout ideas.
Motivation & Passion
My motivation and passion have changed since starting CrossFit. I used to love CrossFit solely for the competition aspect of it, I love testing myself against myself and others. In 2017 things changed, I broke my left wrist while attempting to PR my Squat Clean. This injury required a screw to be place in my wrist (which is still there). After this I began to look at what my purpose of fitness was. My fitness lost the fun attributes that it originally had and what drove me to prioritize it over other things. Working out in my basement was beneficial, but I was missing the group atmosphere and accountability. This is where CF Webster comes in, from the first day that I walked in the door this place has felt like home. CF Webster has the fun/comfortable atmosphere that was lost for me. I have always enjoyed helping people out and what better way of doing this but through fitness. I obtained my CFL1 in April 2021 and was approached by Rob a few months later asking if I would like to coach. I felt honored being asked and hope to be able to help out anyone at the gym the best that I can.
